Lockdown and travel restrictions have forced many to think about making different travel plans this year. Let’s explore the best Camping Gear Checklist for 2020
Planning for alternate travel activities has opened up the world of camping to many. Some vital pieces of camping gear should be brought along to ensure a good experience. Today we’re going through the essential equipment you should make sure to bring on your camping trip.
Packing the Essentials
The first thing that comes to mind when people think about camping is probably sleeping outside in the open. To ensure a comfortable camping trip, we need to bring a few pieces of necessary camping gear.
Camp Sleeping Gear
First out on our camping gear list is the sleeping bag. Which bag you use depends on how you intend to travel while camping. It is best to have a suitable sleeping bag. If you want to backpack, it is best to have a lighter version than the one you would throw in the back of a truck or pack to take with you on horseback.
Next, we need to find something in which to sleep. The sleeping bag is the solution, but most of us prefer to have somewhere to enclose it. Now is where a tent and sleeping pad comes in. Just as with the sleeping bag, there are either lightweight alternatives or larger, more comfortable ones. I wouldn’t recommend trying to stuff a full-size tent into your backpack or trying to bring a lightweight backpacker tent on a family vacation. Be smart about it, and pick one that fits the size and requirements for your trip.
Camp Cooking Kit
So, we have somewhere to sleep and something in which to sleep. Next, we should prepare one more essential piece of camping gear. While we ensured our sleeping on the trip, we should probably eat as well. Depending on the trip you have planned, you could go for the bare minimum with a portable stove and a knife, or you can go full out and bring an equipped outdoor kitchen. A few essentials to make sure you get along would be proper water storage, a knife, a pot to cook on the stove, and some coffee.
Here is a list within our Camping Gear Checklist of what you should consider packing:
- Water storage (a 5-gallon cube is ideal for car camping)
- A Tough Hook hanger
- Fuel (make sure it’s the right fuel for your stove!)
- Pot (for boiling water or heating liquids)
- Frying pan (such as cast iron or nonstick)
- Camp coffee maker
- Plates, bowls (one per camper)
- Eating utensils (fork, spork, or spoon; one per camper depending on meals)
- Cooking oil
- Salt, pepper, seasonings
- Cutting board
- Bottle opener, can opener, corkscrew
- Dishwashing basin (or plastic bin)
- Biodegradable soap
- Dish towel
- Multiple trash bags (for trash, recycling, compost, etc.)
- Personal water bottle (one for each camper) or water bladder
- Cooler and ice
Electronics & Camp Comfort
We have sleeping arrangements covered, and we have the kitchen ready to go. Next out is on our Camping Gear Checklist is electronics. You should always make sure to bring the essential electronics with you on a trip to ensure your safety. These devices should include a light source, preferably a rechargeable one. Otherwise, make sure to pack enough backup batteries. You should also bring your cellphone or radio, with the necessary power source such as a power bank. Here is short list for you:
- Headlamp (plus charging cord or rechargeable/extra batteries)
- Flashlight (plus charging cord or rechargeable/extra batteries)
- Camp lighting
- Phone charger (very Important)
- Portable battery pack (preferably solar)
- 2-Way radio
- Handheld GPS
Camping Storage and Organization
Camping gear, like most gear, requires proper storage to maintain its quality. You should always be sure to hang up your equipment after each use. Let it air out and dry properly before storing your camping equipment away. Investing in proper storage systems such as Tough Hook can make the maintenance job easier. Their heavy-duty hangers will make it easier to hang sleeping backs, outdoor clothes, and sleeping pads to try safely.
